Autel EVO Nano Plus vs DJI Mini 3: which should I buy?
I am looking at the Autel EVO Nano Plus and the DJI Mini 3 as a first serious drone. Both are under 250 grams and priced similarly. I want good image quality and some obstacle avoidance for safety since I am still learning to fly. Which is the better buy?

On raw specs, the Autel EVO Nano Plus has advantages: a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor versus the DJI Mini 3's 1/1.3-inch, plus tri-directional obstacle avoidance (forward, backward, downward) compared to the Mini 3's more limited sensor configuration. Both weigh under 250 grams, but the EVO Nano Plus delivers better camera hardware and more complete obstacle sensing at a similar price, making it the technically superior camera and safety package.
The DJI Mini 3 wins on software maturity, QuickShots automated flight modes, and access to the enormous DJI ecosystem of accessories and community support. For a first drone where you want guidance, tutorials, and a supportive community, DJI's advantage in those areas is real and valuable. If obstacle avoidance and camera specs are your priority, choose the EVO Nano Plus. If you want software features and community backing, choose the DJI Mini 3.

Having owned both drones, I can say the Autel EVO Nano Plus's obstacle avoidance is significantly more capable than the DJI Mini 3's. The Mini 3 only has limited forward and downward sensing, while the EVO Nano Plus has full forward, backward, and downward obstacle sensing. For a beginner pilot still learning spatial awareness while flying, that extra rear sensor can prevent the kind of accidental reversing-into-a-tree crash that beginners are most prone to.
Both drones also have APAS-style obstacle avoidance bypass, but the EVO Nano Plus's coverage is more comprehensive. If safety is genuinely a high priority because you are new to flying, the more complete obstacle sensing on the Autel makes it the more forgiving drone to learn on.
