DJI Neo review: is it worth buying?
I keep seeing the DJI Neo advertised everywhere. It looks super small and fun but I want an honest review before I spend money on it. Is the DJI Neo actually good or is it just hype? Who is it best suited for?

The DJI Neo is a genuinely fun little drone but it has real limitations you need to understand before buying. At 135g it needs no FAA registration, launches directly from your palm without a controller, and has impressive obstacle avoidance for its size. Video tops out at 4K 30fps with EIS stabilization that works well in calm conditions but is not as smooth as a proper 3-axis gimbal drone.
Flight time is about 18 minutes, which translates to roughly 14 to 15 minutes of actual usable flight. It shines as a selfie and social content tool, especially with subject tracking and autonomous QuickShot modes. If you want a first drone purely for fun and short-form video content it is genuinely worth buying. For serious aerial photography or real estate work, you should step up to the DJI Mini 4 Pro instead.

The palm takeoff and landing feature is genuinely impressive and feels very safe to use. I have used it at outdoor events and parties where pulling out a full controller setup would look awkward or draw too much attention. You just hold out your hand, press a button, and it rises up automatically.
For casual social media content at gatherings or adventures it is an excellent tool. The small size means it fits in a jacket pocket and you actually bring it places rather than leaving it at home because it is too bulky.

Video quality is solid for the price point but the absence of a real mechanical gimbal means footage is only fully usable with EIS turned on, which crops the frame slightly. In very windy conditions or during sharp directional changes the stabilization starts to visibly break down.
If smooth, cinema-quality footage is your goal this is not the right tool. But for Instagram Reels and TikTok content where a little dynamic energy in the footage is actually desirable, it works very well.

The subject tracking on the Neo is surprisingly capable. I used it during a mountain bike ride and it kept me in frame through turns and around obstacles without losing lock. For a $200 drone that is genuinely impressive technology.
The FocusTrack suite is a real highlight. It is what differentiates the Neo from basic toy drones that cost a similar amount. If action tracking shots are what you need this is a strong choice.

Short battery life is the most common complaint about the DJI Neo. The rated 18 minutes sounds reasonable but in real use you are getting 14 to 15 minutes before the low battery warning starts cutting into your session. That is not a lot of time to set up and capture good shots.
My strong recommendation is to order a multi-battery kit right when you buy the drone. Having three batteries doubles your usable session time and makes the experience much more enjoyable. Budget for that extra cost from the start.
